Forgot to mention about the 14" and 15" toms. Are they both 10" deep? I believe a 10x14 was standard, but the 15" came in both 10" and 12" depths. I always felt that the 15x12 was too deep, but...

What are the shells made of? If we're talking about soft woods, such as Luan, aka Philippine Mahogany, they can be difficult to cut new edges.

Yep, they're beads! Rogers always felt that having the bead top and bottom, near the bearing edges, gave the shell strength and felt that Ludwig's middle bead didn't offer that much strength.
