Re: nutty question: can you fade a drum to match a faded kit?

I've seen kits that had drums with a fade on one side because it sat in front of a window. The fade happened on the specific spot the light would hit. It's kinda of a joke, but there are some people...

Re: Tuning Vintage Drums To Notes

Not necessarily. The two heads together will play a role in the final note. It all depends on how you tune your toms. I like my resonant heads a little higher than my batter heads.

Re: Tuning Vintage Drums To Notes

I have the same issue as you. Sometimes the overtones makes me think a lug is lower, when its higher. Or the opposite. Using something to help aid in the process helps me nail it perfectly. There is...

Re: Do you ever try to "tune" your drums to drums you have heard on records or cd's ?

The only times I've had much success doing this was to recordings that sound open and use mostly room mics. I've tried to match some old recordings, but I think the microphones and other studio...

Re: Tuning Vintage Drums To Notes

Never said anything like "they don't make em like they used to". There are newer 3 ply style kits that I find similar, but they're out of my price range. I wouldn't mind picking up a new C & C set....

Re: Tuning Vintage Drums To Notes

Not specifically. If you're in the studio, some producers really want the snare and kick to be retuned for the song. It's a great way to make the song sound more cohesive and spend a ton of cash. I...

Re: Tuning Vintage Drums To Notes

I guess I figured it was a forum of enthusiasts that enjoy the sounds and looks of vintage drums. I'm just not big on a lot of the maple Keller style shells out there now.

Re: Vintage 15x12 Ludwig Tom not resonating on snare stand!

Like said above, make sure that snare stand is not tightened on the tom. If its loose and you still can't get it to sound how you like, you can look into a Gauger FlexFrame or Booty Shakers.

Re: Tuning Vintage Drums To Notes

Not sure why there's always somebody that has to point out that they feel their way of doing something is superior.

FWIW, I had a popular well known producer comment repeatedly on how great my kit...

Tuning Vintage Drums To Notes - Detailed

I've never really tuned my drums to specific notes. I always just found the sweet spots and stuck with it. Around 6 months ago I picked up a tune-bot and it was okay, but returned it. A few weeks ago...

Re: How rare are late 60's Ludwig 402 Supras?

Your post was inspiration for me to try to find one. I've been mulling over a b/o badge snare to hold me over. The thing is, this is a kit that I want to keep for the rest of my life. So I figure I...

Re: How rare are late 60's Ludwig 402 Supras?

Well, sounds like I'll be eyeing more B/O badges. Any ideas on a price range for one in good condition?

How rare are late 60's Ludwig 402 Supras?

I'm trying to find the right snare for my '67 Ludwig super classic kit. I love the 6.5" depth on a supraphonic. I can find 14 x 6.5 super sensitive snares easily. I can find 70's supra's...

I've been contemplating offering my Black Beauty up for a trade. This is a snare I said I'd never let go of. It sounds amazing. The reason I'm posting it for a possible trade is because...

Re: iWdrum lights in a vintage painted shell kit

That makes sense. Did you use LED strips that attach the thin sheets or were you using the strips that are mounted inside of a tube? Seems like the tube style through hooks would work out well.

Re: iWdrum lights in a vintage painted shell kit

Thank you! My plan was to try Inspired LED strips, which I'm sure is very similar or the same. The other idea was to apply the strip to something like painters tape, but I know that gets brittle over...
