Re: What Is Your "Go To" Bass Pedal

Since 1965 it's been the Speed King. Never found anything else that comes close.

Re: Just bought a set of 62 (?) Ludwigs in WMP (w/ pics)

That's exactly where the rail consolette is located on my 1948 - 1952 WFL's.

Re: Drummer & Drums identification?

John Rutsey,
I had a slightly different take on that. Could the image be a photo of a photo?
The drummer pic is in a glass frame hanging on wall, superimposed image is that of the photographer and...

Re: Ludwig 22x12 new yorker bass drum

So maybe not such a strange animal after all.

Re: Ludwig 22x12 new yorker bass drum

*with the ride cymbal still leaning on the tom*

Haha! Why not? Gives it a nice sizzle

Now, would I do that to a nice vintage Zildjian A?
The cymbal is actually about an inch away...

Re: Ludwig 22x12 new yorker bass drum

You're correct, it IS too
Bottom lugs are almost worn through, claws and hoops managed to survive unscathed though.
Funny though, after all this time I invested in a bass drum...

Re: Ludwig 22x12 new yorker bass drum

Yeah, I thought that as well at one time. But, if you look at the photo and mentally attach the bass pedal to the other look at where the tom rail consolette is. Better have...

Re: Ludwig 22x12 new yorker bass drum

Thanks Mitch & Ryan for your kind words on the set.
As to the spur situation, that has been discussed previously in here in the past when I posted some photos of the set. No one has been able to...

Re: Ludwig 22x12 new yorker bass drum

My ONLY drum set since 1965. '48 - '52 WFL's, 22x12, 9x13, 16x16. The FT is a Ludwig I bought new in 1965. I never felt under-gunned with the 22x12, play classic rock, and I think the BD...

Re: Ludwig 60's Keystone Badge: How To Restore?

On my '48 - '52 WFLs I would polish the badges occasionally when I polished the chrome with Brasso or Noxon. After a few such sessions I noticed the badges were actually being worn smooth and were...

Re: The Young Rascals

Back in the day, learning to play "Mickey's Monkey" a la Rascals provided me one of my biggest breakthroughs in independency on the set.
Dino was, and is, my biggest influence by far!

Re: Bass Drum felts and the best use of

I have a 12x22 WFL bass drum. Still has a positively ancient Ludwig Weather Master on the reso (was on there when I got the drums used in 1965), and a PS3 on the batter. that I put on about 7 months...

Re: Record Covers with (vintage) Drums on!

Interesting, on those "Explosive Drums" covers. Listed as Cosy Cole, and Cozy

For my money the most explosive drums I ever heard was Don Lamond's drumming on Bobby Darins's "Beyond the...

Re: Pair of old drums in less than perfect shape

Oh, make sure you test out your wiring when you build that lamp.

Hold one of the the stripped wire between thumb and forefinger in one hand. do the same with the other wire in the other hand. ...

Re: I Feel Fine

"She Said, She Said"!!! Slowly, I turned, step by step.............

The drum opening to that song ALWAYS gives me fits. Can never seem to get it "right".

I never knew the early crash towards...

Re: Beach Boys Live and Camco Equipped

Just as a FYI with all this Beach Boys chatter.
Many of you probably are aware of these guys already, but I just was made aware the other day. (Hope it's ok to put a link in here)

Re: Where do you position your snare strainers?

Throwoff at 9:00, always. Well, since 1965 anyway.
Righty, traditional.

Re: Ludwig 5/16 curved spurs, originally how sharp?

Maybe I'm missing the point...(get it?)
But I would think a few minutes with a file would provide points as sharp as you want.
The gull-wing spurs on my 12x22 WFL are darn near razor sharp, as well...

Re: Signature on S.D head

Phil sat once again behind the wheel of the rented Ryder truck, pondering why he ever became a band roadie. Long hours, little pay, constant travel, he had had enough!
Reaching into his shirt...

Re: Ludwig 1123-1 Spurlock pedal repair

My 1123 from 1965 gave out last year. Filed down the remaining white plastic on the footboard to make a sleeve so there is no rubbing. Put on a hose clamp, ran some small nylon pull ties through...

Cymbal Maintenance ? (No, not cleaning)

I bought my 22" A. Zildjian ride (2820g) new in 1965.
I recently realized it has a 50's stamp (No dots)

In my younger days I was not always very mindful when transporting my cymbals. No damage...

Re: Slingerland kit backing up the SNL skits!

Yeah, but didn't think it to be vintage though. Did they fly the ride tom off a cymbal stand back then?
