If that mahogany kit was mine, then it wouldn't leave me for a penny less than 10K....don't care what the "fair market value" is or not! That kit is just drop-dead gorgeous....nicest looking mahogany...

Re: Ludwig Standard snare price check

The very first drum set I ever played upon was my best friend's Ruby Strata kit! And....of course everything sounded wonderful to me. I still reminisce about that kit with him almost every time we...

Re: Ludwig Jazzettes

I guess the best way to say it is that Ludwig tried several ways to make the 12 X 18 drum applicable, but the most famous way was the application of it to the Jazzette kit.

And by the way, Premier...

Re: Vintage Ludwig 3-ply, 12x18 Bop!

That's right. The reason for that "woe" is due to the fact that, subsequently, those catalogs are the only "official" reference we collectors have to use. Anyone could have ordered a kit in virtually...

Re: Vintage Ludwig 3-ply, 12x18 Bop!

As time went on, the Jazzette went through changes....and eventually disappeared as we knew it. I can't imagine them as ever being good sellers in the 70's. I've never seen any of the later versions...

Re: Vintage Ludwig 3-ply, 12x18 Bop!

Again, please take these musings with a grain of salt because (other than interviewing Roy, himself) I have no way of confirming anything. I actually attempted to try and find a route to contact Mr....

Re: Vintage Ludwig 3-ply, 12x18 Bop!

Yeah, Roy was/is a diminutive guy and, since I wrote all that, I've heard more stories that fit very well with the "Jet" vs "Jazzette" kits and Roy....
...Oh yeah, and it couldn't have been his Opel...

Re: Slingerland-to buy or not to buy

I think you're seeing the heads as blueish because they are partially reflecting that blue background....my 2 cents.

That grommet looks waaaaaay more messed with than it should. The bass drum hoop...

Re: What is your favorite vintage hardware?

Yeah, my first good pedal was a Swivo. It was all I knew for a long time. But that leather strap kept stretching and stretching and it became inconsistent. That's when I started my love affair with...

What is your favorite vintage hardware?
