Re: What's so great about Speed King pedals?

Yeah, all those heel pieces are opposite of how mine is installed. I can see a benefit from having it this way though. As the pedal goes down, the heel comes up and vice versa. So I can use the...

Re: What's so great about Speed King pedals?

Even if you think there are better pedals out there today you have to admit that this design was ahead of it's time and still competetive with 'modern' pedals.

Re: What's so great about Speed King pedals?

TWO THINGS:

First, I've had em all, Pearl, Yamaha, Axis longboards, DW 5/9000, Iron Cobra, Slingerland, and the new Tama Speedcobra is an amazing pedal. Feels like part of your foot. Timing is...

Re: Looking for tips

Thanks guys. I tune my drums pretty regularly and spend almost an hour on each one tweaking and zero-ing in on the tone I want. I did retune my tom to another acceptable note and then on to the...

Looking for tips

Hi,
I'm playing on a 63 slingy with a single ply 63 slingy snare. I have my rack tom (13 inch) on a snare stand instead of the rail mount and I get a nasty snare buzz when I hit the rack tom. I...

Re: Are vintage hat stands really usable?

I just went all vintage and got a flat based Slingerland hi-hat that I bought on ebay. First I was SHOCKED how small the box was when it arrived. When I set it up it felt like kids toy compared to...

Re: Evans Black Chrome heads

Update:

Well, my buddy installed the Black Chrome heads on his 90's Sonor kit, and whoa bessie. Big, thunderous sound. In fact he was able to tune up a bit and still be powerful. They helped...

Re: Evans Black Chrome heads

Yeah, they're a little more money than other heads. :)

I just talked to a friend of mine who drums in a couple local bands and he ordered full sets to put on his Sonor kit and his Art-Star kit. ...

Re: Evans Black Chrome heads

Thanks Brian. I think I'll try one on my rack tom to get a bigger sound out of it.

Evans Black Chrome heads

Has anyone tried these relatively new heads by Evans on their vintage kits? I guess it's a two ply head, one 7mm clear with a 7.5mm black head on the bottom. They seem to sound great on newer kits,...

Re: Vintage Zildjian Recommendations?

Oh, another thing I've noticed, is it makes a huge difference in tone with different cymbal stands. I was using some of the top of the line Yamaha stands but I liked the look of the old Slingerland...

Re: Vintage Zildjian Recommendations?

Thanks for the link, and no it doesn't have to be Zildjian for my needs. Also doesn't have to be period correct, but the sound I hear in my head is like some of the Trans Stamp ones I see on...

Re: Slingerland AA Pedal

I believe the Epic is the model with only one spring, and the AA is the same basic pedal with two springs (one on each side). If you have an AA with one spring it may have replaced the heel pad, or...

Re: Vintage Zildjian Recommendations?

Thanks Mikey. Good tip about using my sticks. I do have a very specific stick I like to use. It's a close copy of a Slingerland 1S wood tip. VERY different sound than any modern design.

So you...

Vintage Zildjian Recommendations?

Hi,
I'm playing on a '63 Slingerland kit and I don't play out anymore, just at home and doing some recording. I have a Sabian AAX Stage Ride 21 inch that doesn't sound right with the rest of my...

Re: Opinions on this 62 slingerland kit.

I've been playing drums for years and played all kinds of kits and all kinds of music in small to BIG clubs and I picked up a '63 Slingy 13, 16, 20 about 6 months ago, and I LOVE the tone. Hold out...

Re: cowbell-stand mount-who uses them?

I have mine mounted on my smallest crash stand and they sit left of my mounted tom, and aimed at my snare, just a little higher. This way I can 'cascade' down the cowbells right onto the snare head.

Re: A couple WTF items

Kona, a Trans Stamp is the marking on a fairly desirable Zildjian cymbal from the 40's and 50's. What makes it funny, is the Shark sized 'bite' out of the edge of that cymbal. (a good example of a...

Re: Old K vs. Non Old K

I saw these earlier on ebay. I wish they had sound files cuz I've always wondered how the Canadian K's sound compared to the Turkish.

In a way, they should sound like early Sabians right? :) ...

A great deal, or am I mistaken

Hi,
Another darn value question. :)

I've seen a couple early 60's Slingerland SOLID Maple snares in very good condition, for sale for around $350. Isn't that a really good price for those...
