Re: Removing old paint from wooden hoops...

Thanks for all the replies everyone.

Phew, Longjohn! That's some lead history you have. I gave sanding a go (masked of course) on the outside of one hoop - came out rather well, but what a...

Re: This is the Display Your Australian Made Drums Thread

My latest acquisition: Drouyn marching side drum, circa 1972 (best guess going by SN).
Currently cleaning it up and trying to remove old lead-based paint from the hoops without having to resort to...

Re: Hey! Remember me?

Yeah, I chose the word carefully. Mongrel is apt.

BD is an 1976 18" FT I converted to bop size BD (thanks Burgundy for parts), FT is a 1970 15" marching snare I converted to FT, and rack is a...

Sorry, probably the wrong place just to say G'day, but it's been a while since I last logged in and contributed.

Been busy with gigs and getting my life on track. I'm currently in 5 different...

Re: Heads for over-sized Ajax Drums

Kentville Drums - Steele makes kangaroo hide drum heads to any size you like, if you don't mind sending over to Oz.

Re: All time record for receiving drum wrap in the post?

Yeah, I tried Jammin' Sam's. He's usually really good, but he couldn't help me with what I was after.

And yeah, it wasn't possible to get a sample and so I just had to trust him.

Anyone else...

All time record for receiving drum wrap in the post?

Hi Gentlemen,

It's been a little while since I posted here, but I thought this was worth telling.

Today, exactly fourteen months ago, I put in an order for some wrap from Andy at Drum Maker. I...

Re: Urgent Help ti ID Ludwig Snare

$110!!! Wow, that's less than $200 in Oz Dollars, and that, my Dear Sir, is an absolute bargain as far as I'm concerned. Good score!

Re: Shipping a Ludwig 'Bonham"sized kit to Australia.

DHL charged me about $700AUD to ship my Downbeat to Oz from Seattle, and that was two years ago. Won't have changed much, I don't think. Beats $5K!!

Re: Less is More

Re: Need help with this one gretsch drums

I'm thinking it could be something along these lines (see pic) - I'm no Gretsch expert, but there are guys here who are.
This catalogue pic is from 1941 and shows the duco shells and the tacked-on...

Re: Need help with this one gretsch drums

Looks 40s to me, what with that tacked-on head on the tom. Or is it a Renown or Dixieland perhaps? I think this catalogue pic is from the 50s... Great find in the garbage! You'd never find...
