Re: Slingerland model question

That's really important thanks very much! I love that name as I have a son called Gene. Just wondering for clarity - if the badge is legit, would that not narrow the drum to 56-59? Take care. PK

Re: Slingerland model question

Thanks very much for the replies - yes, I do think it's an early RK with a clamshell as the holes do line up. It was a very early restoration and as slinger fan has pointed out, the current strainer...

Re: Slingerland model question

More pictures. I've tried to show the snare ends of the drum. I can't see the six small holes that the RK strainer used. Is there another Slingerland snare from Chicago, with a natural interior...

Slingerland model question

Hi all - hope you are safe and well. I am trying to find out a little more about a snare drum I own. I restored it from a bit of a wreck - about seven or eight years ago. I'll will just set out what...

Rogers Powertone COB

Iím trying to describe the shell design, but I canít remember what the manufacturing term is for the channels top and bottom in the shell. I know they were not only decorative but had a sonic...

Camco vs DW lugs

A friend has a Camco Oaklawn snare he loaned me. He just picked it up and asked me if it was easy to tell DW lugs from Camco. I mean the old DW ones - weren't they from the original Camco dies? He's...

Re: Drouyn Snare Drum

Yes that's an S100. Drouyn copied the Supra. Sounds a little bit different though. I wish I could find the wood version. You've done well, because mostly the chrome is long gone from those drums....

Vintage bass drum sizes

When was the first time you saw a vintage bass drum in a deeper than traditional size? There seems to have been a long period in drum making where a 12" or 14" depth was very common. I know about the...

Re: Rogers Powertone Snare Wires?

I also like the Puresound 16 strand on Powertones. I use plastic on the butt end too. It seems to help the wires sit better.

Tower or Powertone Rogers snare drum

Hi all. A friend is looking for a Powertone or Tower to wrap for a kit. I don't really like seeing perfectly good Rogers being stripped but anyway, if you have something please let me know. Thanks.

Re: Ludwig Blue Oyster Pearl kit

Andrew is spot-on - Ludwig vintage drums are quite rare and fairly expensive here. As I said - all the wrap is shot. I wanted to strip the kit to a nice players kit and because it's complete, keep it...

Re: Help with crack in a Rogers 14" floor

I'm with Ploughman. I'd say that crack - or actually a separation of a single ply - has been there for a long time. As to the effect on the value: if you paid $700 and the rest of the drum is nice -...

Re: Ludwig Blue Oyster Pearl kit

Andrew; not dismissing your knowledge at all. This is how I learn stuff. So - if this kit has re-rings and a Granitone interior - it's 3 ply? Would that be a safe bet? Also on the value of the kit -...

Re: Ludwig Blue Oyster Pearl kit

What makes you certain of this? No one else seems to know. I do know one thing. $1000 is generous for this drum kit.

Re: Ludwig Blue Oyster Pearl kit

The snare drum is worth $350. The cymbals are 70s Zildjians worth about $350. The wrap cannot be saved. The whole kit is rusty. The drums are Granitone 6 ply. All of the heads need replacing. I don't...

Re: Ludwig Blue Oyster Pearl kit

I later offered $1000 out of respect for the hardware and cymbals. Figured that outer ply would look pretty nice with some waxing and they probably sound ok. I was rebuffed! there were no harsh words...
