Re: Looking for cymbal options to replicate 60s and 70s sound!

I agree that the dream cymbal range is very good and the vintage bliss is very close to 60's sounds.

Personally I have three sets of cymbals with Dream Contact and Energy as my modern sounding...

Re: Vintage Premier 2000 In Need Of Restoration

The best way to probably sort that is to get the shell shot blasted and all the chrome removed, or brushed alloy is the way to go.

Re: Premier folks, what do we have here?

It looks like the 70's kit my Uncle Lee had but with the bottom heads taken off.

Re: Krut "Special" 18 crash / ride

Look out for a Super Zyn which will be very 60's and trad jazz or a 5 star Super Zyn if you want a bright more modern tone or retro 70's.

2 star Zyn are slightly better than the Zyn you have seen...

Re: Premier COB Royal Ace 14"x4" snare

Totally agree and I think drilling a 50 year old Ace and adding new based hardware will totally change the sound.

All my Royal Ace and 2000 have a similar sound and that is due to the cast hoops...

Re: Krut "Special" 18 crash / ride

Basically the same as a Premier Zyn cymbal and as said trashy it will sound whatever the age.

I have as new and old ZYN cymbals and the nickel silvers are all pretty much the same sound wise but...

Re: Premier COB Royal Ace 14"x4" snare

I have one and have found the original parts to be very reliable and work well and as these are from around 1966 they are built well and should last another 50 years if you look after it.

I did...

Re: Carlton Snare and Zyn 2 star 12"

British made by premier out of nickel silver and from the late 60's to the 70's.

I use the ones I have as splash cymbals and they tend to go for around 15-35 depending on size and condition as...

Re: brass premier 2000 snare??

Yes I know that but on the inside they don't look brass colour either.

Re: brass premier 2000 snare??

It may be an orchestral version but you can see the paint flaking off so has been painted to make it look more gold colour.

Re: brass premier 2000 snare??

The funny thing is that my two brass royal ace snares don't look that colour either and more like steel inside.

Re: brass premier 2000 snare??

Badge with a serial number means it is early 70's onwards?

It may not be brass but an alloy one sprayed with paint as they also did that to some later snares.

Re: What is this cymbal?

From Wikki!

Zyn cymbals were introduced by Premier in 1950 and marketed as an affordable cymbal. They were made of nickel-silver alloy and could be ordered with 'Olympic' drum kits. Pairs of...

Re: So I have some Premier's, I'm just not sure which!

If the badges aren't original then it could be a made up kit but dagger mounts are late 60's to early 70's and mahogany is early 70's so it could be a hybrid or even had an earlier rack tom added to...

Re: So I have some Premier's, I'm just not sure which!

Top tom is older and from the early/late 60's due to different badge.

Re: So I have some Premier's, I'm just not sure which!

Looks like a mahogany kick and if badge is correct and has no serial number it puts them at around early 70's.

Tom looks as if it is birch with beech re rings tho!

Re: Beverly Cymbals

Looks pretty much like a zyn cymbal from the early to late 60's as supplied with Premier drums. They were nickel silver too and also had those hammering marks, they then became zyn 2 star after...

Re: Opinions on old cymbal and doesn't fit modern stand

I have a large collection of 50's / 60's super zyn cymbals and just drill out the hole to suit modern stands. It tends to get rid of the key holing too!

Re: The cymbal cleaning question...again

I hate all those big black logo's and think they make even top end cymbals look cheap.

You may love them but I like the small stamps and a small logo ala my Dream cymbals.
