Re: Ludwig Marching Bass sawed in half!

Yes, I myself could never saw drums half like this...it was a hack job anyway. The only time it was excusable was in the 60s before DCI allowed timpani - the Boston Crusaders sawed bass drums in...

Re: My latest "drum run"

Those Ludwig snares are great. Our band used them in the 80s but they are MIA now. I bet someone tried to install Kevlar and collapsed all of the shells...

Another genius idea...this set of 6 Ludwig bass drums were sawed in half to make impact drums at some point in the past. After fitting with replacement hardware I filled the gaps with silicone II...

Early 80s Noble & Cooley Snare

Love this drum - not really vintage yet but looks much better after polishing and re-lacquering the lugs. Throw was bad so replaced with a Trick GS007.

Re: Late 50's Shelly Manne COB Revived

They are the Black Swamp W14CS Blue Coated/Stainless cable snares, although my first choice is the Patterson snares. I couldn't get those to fit though the hoop inserts. I put the Patterson's on my...

Late 50's Shelly Manne COB Revived

Just another snare I found in pieces at one of my older campuses...due to the presence of a snare bed, this one now works very well for orchestral purposes. I only wish it were the 10-lug version.

Re: Refinishing Slingerland hoops: absolute disaster

I've had great luck with Duplicolor - acrylic lacquer from auto parts stores.

Re: Dream Come True Adhesive Remover

Good question - I have yet to try on the wrap itself but I'll give it try on some of my scraps next time I'm in my office.

Re: Slingerland & Ludwig concert re-wraps

Just wrapped the 36". This one required some planning since the wrap comes in three separate pieces.

Re: Slingerland & Ludwig concert re-wraps

Yes, these are school-owned orchestral instruments. They just desperately needed attention. Everything else is in great shape and it made sense to preserve what they already had. Shells were is good...

Re: Slingerland & Ludwig concert re-wraps

Shells unwrapped, prepped and ready for new wrap. For some reason the 10" tom does not have a mahogany outer ply.

Slingerland & Ludwig concert re-wraps

Summer re-wrap project - Slingerland concert bass and Ludwig concert toms. It appears the bass was marine pearl before painted black a very long time ago. This made it quite difficult to remove the...

Re: Dream Come True Adhesive Remover

Yes, I hope that the product works well for others too. I did not enjoy using dangerous chemicals, and hoped for a safer solution. I will post more soon, but here are some quick shots of other...

Dream Come True Adhesive Remover

This forum has been a great help for some of my projects so I'm giving back. About a year ago I stripped a set of 80s Ludwig concert toms and could not find a suitable product for stripping the...
