Yes Indeed... cannot understand it either..
My wife spent 3 months in hospital this year.. and 2 months in Hospital 2018, As seniors we did not receive a bill.. not even Ambulance fees,

Just buy some "Split Rivets" and use a metal washer on the inside to reinforce the hole. I'm sure you can buy them in brass, & you'll need only a screwdriver & tack hammer to do the job..

I'd say that it's not.... they were 3ply shells then , but if you unscrew a lug (or even better), the tone control you should get a look in ..

Usually anything that thickens a shell ... will reduce the resonance.... AKA Pearl wood/fibreglass shells.... dead as a doornail...

Do some test samples on a piece of birch first...
Then & if the edge is already shaped & sanded, I would simply mask of the finished edge as close as possible to the bare wood as possible, also...

Rogers made some mid 70's when they ceased putting mufflers in Big R Dynasonics... I still have a few which I use a lot. Tama or Pearl made them too.

If the wrap is not salvageable to your satisfaction maybe look at some "Mirror Chrome" wrap from Jammin Sam's... worked for me... wont cost the earth either,,
