Re: Favourite era for Ludwig shells

For me, I'm a huge fan of the mid/late 50s, WFL sets with the bare mahogany interiors; 3 ply shells. To me, they just have that warm vintage sound.
My second favorites are the same as yours; the...

Re: Which Trade Would You Take

I own a Renown RN2 set in the same sizes, which is the newest edition of that line. They are very well made drums. I believe the difference between my set and the set offered, is the rims. I think...

Re: Ludwig Standard Student Kit

Could be as early as about 1968 with that badge. Given the style of that snare "suitcase," I would think of it being late 60's or maybe 1970.
As for value, I think you did really good considering...

Re: Fibes Drums

TommyP, thanks for that bit of history lesson you provided. I had no idea that Fibes weren't the first acrylic set! I also want to research and listen to Billy Cobham play on these. If you've ever...

Re: Slingerland tuning help

There are several schools of thought when deciding how to tune your drums. The great thing about this question is even though it has been discussed extensively in many places and forums, you can...

Re: Fibes Drums

Should be the same sound out of those as a Vistalite kit. Great for playing loud blues and rock stuff, but not so much if your into the jazz IMO. I'd say if you can trade outright, even swap, that...

Re: Superficial Drum Pet Peeves

The frequent ad for an "Evans drum set w/ 22" base drum and Zildjian symbols" comes to mind Excited

Re: Decisions Decisions

Totality of the circumstances... I'd go with the modern Classic Maple kit out of all of those. I don't usually say that, but with the issues presented on the vintage kits, I think you will get more...

Re: Tko "pro" percussion

That one almost looks like they were trying to go for the DW look. I also noticed the 10 lugs a side bass drum, which for TKO they usually had 8 lugs for a 22"
The TKO's I remember from the early...

Re: Ludwig 1920s Mahogany Super

I would think that price is a little high, for as many issues that it has.. parts missing, painted inside, and being re-wrapped like it is.
I wouldn't have much interest in that particular drum...

Re: Rogers Red Onyx Drums Complete

If you plan to keep these, I'd say a re-wrap is a good idea.. a solid investment.
I know that you sell and trade often, so if you are planning to do that with this kit, I'd leave them like they...

Re: Rogers Fullerton Green Label

There's a Rogers drum group on Facebook you can join, if you're not a member. Several Rogers experts on there and I'd bet they would be able to answer your question.

Re: Dating Zildjian cymbals

I'm still learning this stuff myself..

I believe the middle photo is a late 50's stamp. Looks like a 60s stamp but the 3 dots are missing in the Arabic writing above. The E in Made is aligned...

Re: Zildjian Vintage 14'' Hats

No expert, but this is what i learned from Mike..
Looks like a 70s thin stamp. there's the absence of the 3 dots in the Arabic writing and the H in Turkish is not aligned over the E in Made.
