Re: What's with the insane asking prices on Reverb?

When it comes to vintage sets that were/are common -such as the Ludwig Super Classic configuration, then condition is everything. Any alteration or damage is going to devalue such a kit, greatly....

Re: Spray-on head texture

My Ruff-Kote story is this:

I've always been that kid who took care of his stuff, so when I got my first kit (a Tempro), I was meticulous about taking care of it. However, my young mind couldn't...

Re: How can I salvage this kit?

That poor thing! :(

Well, the bass drum is trashed -in MY opinion. I only say that because there are a few VERY dedicated woodworking experts who might be able to do something....but for the...

Re: Favorite Bass Drum sound/recording?

I like the sound of this little Ludwig Jazzette kit Alphonse Mouzon is playing. Even though he has the front head off, he gets a really big, clear, articulate sound from it....plus, I am a Jazzette...

Re: Contemplating selling my only 2 vintage snare drums

Hey OP

It's not like you wouldn't be able to find a Supra or an Acro on the market if you ever needed one. Those two models of snare drums are probably the two most ubiquitous drums in the world....

Re: Anyone know what this is worth?

It's not going to be worth much because it's not the type of drum that gets used anymore and it's also not in great condition.....maybe ~$100 on a good day.

Re: Any ideas what this Snare drum is?

I presume that the drum is 14" in diameter? Is that correct?

If so, the fact that is has 8 t-rods (as opposed to 6) and the fact the shell is made of oak and is "full-size" 14" diameter (not a...

Re: Any ideas what this Snare drum is?

Wow....Okay...Looking at the second picture you added....The shell appears to be made of oak....unusual....That particular style of t-rod and claw is unfamiliar to me, as is the strainer...

Re: Any ideas what this Snare drum is?

Probably 1920's-30's....but they made these drums into the 1940's, as well. I have a Ludwig Junior kit with a similar-type of single-tension T-rods on both the bass drum and the snare drum. It is...

Re: Any ideas what this Snare drum is?

BTW....

Those t-tods are single-tension. They aren't attached to the shell so it makes no difference if they are upside down or right side up as far as the tuning. Unless they are attached to the...

Re: Any ideas what this Snare drum is?

Need to see the snare strainer and more details....inside of the shell, heads, etc.

I've got several similar drums -most were built as student drums or economy models by companies like W&A and...

Re: Blue Ripple Dyna on eBay

The bottom line on all of these rare drums is that the price is what someone out there is willing to pay. You never know what kind of nostalgic feelings something like this might bring out in...

Re: Blue Ripple Dyna on eBay

I'd never pay that price for a resto.

If it was all original and in perfect condition, then sky's the limit...but not this.

Re: Joyous Lake drums

I remember Scott and some of his snare drums when he worked at American Music. These drums are the real deal -made by a guy who obviously couldn't make it as a drum "business" because what he made...

Re: Do you ever feel overwhelmed with all your gear?

I don't have nearly as many kits anymore....and I'm STILL overwhelmed by having too much. I don't gig anymore and these things are just taking up space. I would sell the rest of it (except for maybe...

Re: 1968 Ludwig Downbeat

Nice kit!

I have a '67 Downbeat kit in red sparkle with the matching Downbeat snare and gull-wing fold-out spurs. I also have a VERY-close badge number Jazzette bass drum in red sparkle, too! So,...

Re: A general consensus ?

For me, it was the Rogers blue sparkle.....and also the piano black....I think the black just set off the tremendously-cool-looking Rogers script badge and the Swiv-O-Matic hardware better than any...

Re: Ludwig identification

Yeah, man....always nice to find something like that.

As far as value...not much. It isn't a matched set and the bass drum has been altered in a major way. The finish is cool, but not...

I'll bet that kit will be fun to play. I'm already doing the descending tom lick in my mind just looking at them! ;)
