Re: Scored these Ludwig’s on a local BST site.

Sizes, serial numbers, shell thickness, condition of seams, scratches and gouges, rusty/corroded metal, all determine value. So, better pics/more info needed?
Also, I think a store will offer much...

Re: Drum Companies and Their Worst Ideas

Light weight hardware......
In 1991 I used Tama backline hardware for a gig in Sweden.
The new light weight Tama cymbal stands would bounce away from me every time I crashed a cymbal.

Re: Just picked up this beauty! What did I get?

The Super Ludwig has one set of wires, in the usual place.
The Super Sensitive had a second set of wires under the top head.
They both came out at the same time as far as I'm aware.....

Re: 1920’s Ludwig & Ludwig factory painted drum head

Have you ever thought of using the bass drum to display the head?
My pal Randy Rainwater turned an old two headed 14"x28" bass drum into a 4"x28" single headed bass drum which is a frame for a...

Re: 1920’s Ludwig & Ludwig factory painted drum head

Re selling the bass drum; The Black Beauty bass drums are often 27 5/8" inches in diameter, so replacing torn heads is difficult.
I've given a couple of these drums away over the years.
I've sold...

Re: We lost another icon. . . RIP DJ Fontana

In 1995 I had the honor of double drumming on a track with DJ. That was one of the highlights of my career.
He was a true gentleman, a really great guy!

Re: Old Man Rant: Something I hope never happens to drums.

I hope and pray "they" never do the relic thing with new drums, and I prefer my vintage drums to be as nice as possible.
Having said that, I have a few dinged up old kit I like to gig on because I...

Re: Can you please date this Ludwig & Ludwig drum?

Usually when the L+L stamp says Elkhart it indicates the drum was made after WW2.
So my slightly educated opinion would be 1947-1950?

Re: Opinions Please

Something good to know: Silver Anniversary drum lugs don't have inserts for the tension rods.
The lugs are threaded, and often strip out, rendering the drum pretty much unplayable......

Re: Ludwig Super Sensitive Snare

The SS was minty. Went for over a grand? (Maybe the buyer will read this and offer exact info which I don't recall! )

Re: Ludwig Super Sensitive Snare

Yes, they made brass shelled SS's in the early 1960's.
Some of the strainer parts were Ludwig and Ludwig 1930's/1940's parts on the initial run of drums.
I sold one last year. Weighed a ton and...

Re: 1941 Swing Sensation "Top Hat and Cane" Original

Donn Bennett sells more Top Hat drums than anyone.
He'd be the guy to contact, especially since he's "in the neighborhood".

Re: Any ideas on year range of this Ludwig snare

The drum pictured is a hard to find size, but, condition is everything.
Your drum has dents and scratches and missing parts.
It's not worth thousands of dollars, possibly not worth hundreds....

In the late 70's we had lyrics translated from English to Japanese, then translated back to English, for a domestic Japan release.

Re: What do you think?

Couple hundred bucks for the bass drum imo.
The tom, I don't know, there's not a lot you can do with an 11" tom.....
And, matching the yellowed pearl with other drums would be quite a chore?

Re: a little help deciding on a Ludwig ... please

There's not a whole lot of differences between the two sets? What's your favorite color, silver or blue?
