Re: Zildjian 22" Med ride

Yes 80s. The combination of ink style (solid Zildjian on top) and that trademark stamp (the CO stamp) put that as late 1982 to 1986 on present evidence, although some change to the end year is...

Re: Dating Zildjian cymbals

Precise years for these are hard to estimate. There is always a bit of uncertainty which I've indicated by adding "ish". Although we have common names for the stamps like "60s" or "70s" most changes...

Re: Old pies

Yes those 18" plus orchestral pairs seem to be a special case in terms of pricing. Opinions vary and are sometimes strongly held regarding what they will sell for. For example this thread:

Re: Old pies

Thin Trans Stamp rides are nice to my ears, and are less expensive than old Ks. I'm not sure where you draw the line for Thin in different diameter Trans stamp rides, although I've got data which...

I don't usually engage in this sort of discussion in for sale threads unless somebody asks but...

I knew they were very likely 70s from the original photos because they have that sort of hammering...

Re: Old pies

Pretty good first level summary. :)

I'd add that having "R Spizzichino" does as well as having "K" and "Istanbul" these days. Thin is in fashion although not in a simple linear way. We are...

Re: Cymbal lathing

Cymbals are not tuned to a particular pitch, let alone a note on the piano. That's why we use the term "perceived pitch" for what people report when they listen to a cymbal and compare that sound...

Re: Cymbal lathing

Thanks for showing us the results. It looks very nice.

I'm confused by the way individuals use these terms too. Including gongy. I think examples using sound files might be the only way to...

That's the earlier of the two versions of the A Zildjian & Cie Constantinople trademark. So 1973 to mid 1982ish on present evidence. If you follow the links in my signature you can get to my...

Where is this catalog of which you speak? Has somebody published a list of every Jazz Festival known and which panel the throw vs badge is on? I know there are people who do extraordinary data...

Re: Ludwigs in black paint?

What I noticed first about the black paint finish is that it was deteriorating in the area where fingers touched it turning the snares on and off. That seemed odd. I then took it apart and removed a...

Re: Ludwigs in black paint?

You aren't crazy. It can sometimes be difficult to tell 6 lugs from 8 lugs from a side picture like that. The uncertainly arises if the snare is turned at certain angles, how far away the camera is,...

Re: Ludwigs in black paint?

Once upon a time I bought a home made Ludwig microkit (10/12/16 kick) from 80s shells with a black snare. This was about all the detail I had:

When it...

Thanks for spotting it and writing it up where I could find it. But 5 years is quick to get noticed. I'm still amazed by the number of people who don't seem to know what Hugo Pinksterboer carefully...

Yes it looks like a 2B to me. I've got more detailed attributes to check than are written up in my identification tool. That was an experiment and I haven't yet been back to create the second...

Re: Floor tom to kick conversion - seeking advice

Your choice of conversion kit depends in part on what diameter of legs your floor tom uses. The Gibraltar video Olimpass posted comes in 10.5 mm and 12.7 mm. These are both too big for some older...

Re: Another Zildjian Stamp question...

It should be a late 50s Small Stamp, SSB variant.

You can rule out all the other stamps on various grounds. Not a Trans Stamp because the TURKISH CYMBALS...

Re: Is this 50s or 70s A Zildjian

That cymbal has a late 1950s Small Stamp. It passes these tests for not being a 70s:

Re: WFL Keystone Acrolite

Yes, common usage is to call these Ludwig rather than WFL. This distinguishes the 50s WFLs from the later Ludwig. But since William F Ludwig is responsible for it either way...
