Where are all the 602 crashes?

I have a beautiful set of pre serial Paiste 602 hi hats, and a nice medium ride. I have been hunting a 16 or 17 crash forever! Where are they all?

Re: Why Play Vintage?

My modern DW Collector’s Exotics are great drums. They sound and look good, they always bring compliments on both when I play them out, and they’re built very well!
My vintage kits have a sound all...

Re: I'm moving!!

I moved last year, closer to work. Was traveling an hour each way and the 100 hours/week in the summer was grueling with that drive on top of that!
I rented a climate controlled storage unit for a...

Re: Down beats

So are you blaming the dealers who export kits by the hundreds? I know those guys! I run into them at the shows and they tell me I’m asking too much for my stuff. Come Monday, they’re packing up 5...

Re: Down beats

They’re out there, just at the $2000+ price point! I got lucky finding the Burgundy Sparkle set I stumbled upon. They sound fantastic! Perhaps that is why they aren’t coming up as often?

Re: Removing paint without damaging wrap?

Wet sanding works well but is very time consuming. Working about a 6”x6” area at a time, 400 grit until you see wrap, then 600 until the paint is mostly gone. 1000 and up to 2000, then finish off...

Re: Dented Rogers Shell

Yes, as long as there are no tears in the metal, it is repairable. I have done several on a jig I have made. PM me for details if you are interested, I can repair it for you if you’d like.
I set it...

Leedy Shelly Manne snare wires

I recently picked up a nice Shelly Manne wood shell snare drum in Blue Satin Flame Pearl. Fantastic drum in need of a cleaning, BTW - the foaming bubbles and toothbrush method works great! The one...

Re: I Have Never "Gotten" Gretsch Drums

I have restored and brought back to life many snare drums and drum kits dating back to the ‘20’s(the drums that is, not me!). Several stand out. One of which was an early 50’s Gretsch kit. It came to...

Re: My Christmas Present

I think you’ll be pleased with these. Despite the mods, I would be interested to hear what you have to say about the sound after you get them where you want them.

Re: Camco

If he’s asking $1500, you can get clarification on them and use the answers as a bargain chip. As far as a kit like that, with those sizes, even with the issues, it’s still a good deal in the...

Re: How much for this Torodor MIJ Kit?

I recently bought and restored a mostly Torodor kit. They were also blue sparkle with snare. They came with a very nice Ludwig 1121 HH stand which I kept and restored. The drums were cleaned and...

EAK or IAK?

I recently got a pair of Zildjian 13” K/Z hi hats in a drum deal. Since I already had a set, I was familiar with them and the sound. This pair however is older. They have a much larger K on the top...

Re: Nickel over brass-polishing recipe?

Nickel does not come out as shiny as chrome, no matter what you use. It smooths out the surface, which enhances the shine, but it still shows the worn away spots that were there before. Don’t be...

Re: Tension rods, cleaning, rust, soaking

With water! Think about mixing a sink to do dishes. Use about 4x the amount of Dawn for parts. I go heavy.

Re: Tension rods, cleaning, rust, soaking

For badly rusted rods I use Dawn soak for a day or two. When removing, use a toothbrush to clean out the threads. Then let dry and polish. I only chase the threads of they’re damaged as this will...

Re: Cleaning Wrap Finishes

I start with soap and water to remove surface dirt first, as this may cause scratches later. Depending on the severity of the surface scratches, Novus is a decent plastic polish, as is Meguiers...
