Re: This is the Display Your Sonor Drums Thread

I've had a D-424 and this D-471 and neither has a cap. I've seen repros on the market, or rather snares with repros, but I don't think I've ever seen an old Sonor with the cap still on the throw in...

Removing caked on stubborn rust from chrome MIJ hoop

So I picked up a '69 MIJ bass drum for a beater set and though the drum itself, wrap and inlay are in pristine condition, the bottoms and insides of the metal hoops are totally caked with thick rust....

Re: Slingerland Hollywood Ace question

Great snare drum and has the standard throw, not the more finicky Zoomatic like the one-ply Artist snare (which usually goes for more money and was the other wooden 8 lug Slingerland snare of the...

Re: For Sale: 20/12/14 Olive Satin Flame Gretsch Round Badge

There was one on reverb with a 16 floor Tom and a matching snare that was made in the 90s. Probably a year or two ago. This one is just the three drums with the small floor Tom.

Re: For Sale: 20/12/14 Olive Satin Flame Gretsch Round Badge

The set was mine. I had the original heads on them and a modern permatone I believe. They are great drums, I just prefer the Teardrops for what I do. I put these drums on consignment at Maxwell Drums...

Re: For Sale: 20/12/14 Olive Satin Flame Gretsch Round Badge

The shells are fairly similar (no re-rings) but the edges are different. The Sonor is a lot more versatile with tuning IMO. The Gretsch does bop tuning well and the 12" tom also worked well at medium...

Re: For Sale: Sonor D-424 snare

Hi Wayne (or anyone outside USA interested). I don't have much experience shipping drums - I usually put them up on CL or just bring to Maxwells. I figured first class shipping overseas would present...

For Sale: Sonor D-424 snare

Somewhat of a rarity, this D-424 model is the metal snare that pre-dated the D-444, which came with Teardrop kits in the 60s. Ferro-manganese shell, all original parts in working order, tone control...

Re: For Sale: 20/12/14 Olive Satin Flame Gretsch Round Badge

I actually bought it from Maxwell years ago! And now I’ve got my dream set, a Sonor teardrop with an 18” bass drum - which ain’t cheap. May just trade it in if I can’t move it.

OK, I somehow screwed up the original post trying to edit and locked it by mistake, so I'm re-uploading both the post and the Craigslist ad since I'm getting a security pop-up uploading the pictures...

Sonor Teardrop 6 ply

Here's the catch - with 20" BD + 12" Tom. Floor tom doesn't matter (14" would be sublime, 16" is fine).

Wrap/finish - Anything but blue slate/blue onyx.

The 12" tom is the issue - all the...

Re: This is the Display Your Sonor Drums Thread

Here's mine. It actually has two 13" toms up top but I played one up for the gig. 1970 20/13/13/16. Hunting for a 20/12/16 6 ply player's set if anyone has one for sale!

Re: Sonor Teardrop 3 ply x 6 ply

The 3 ply bass drum also has a tendency to go out of round or crack because the thin shells kind of buckle under the weight of the mounted tom. And the older Teardrop sets, the toms are mounted kind...

Re: Sonor D-421 on the way. Strainer Questions...

Thanks all. My strainer is good and I've been recording with it. It actually has some Pearl wires on it, so I'm assuming there are modern wires that will work with this parallel strainer. My initial...

Sonor D-421 on the way. Strainer Questions...

Been on the hunt for a D-471 and ultimately caught its parallel strainer counterpart (either a D-421 or 422, not sure). Excited to start recording and parallel strainer works fine, but wanted to know...

Preferably in gold satin flame (multi-brilliant), black sparkle, blue slate or blue marble. Open to other wraps. Player's shape is fine as long as it functions and...
