Re: Rogers Top Hat Drum Set

Hi leedybdp!

Can you provide some large and clear pictures of the Swivo tom arms? Your only picture is just too small to really see what everyone is talking about. I know everyone would certainly...

Re: Buddy

I was never aware of any of these "New York" assertions concerning Buddy. If anyone might know something about this, I think TommyP would.

Re: latest project snare

K.O.!!

Excellent video of your new, and superb, snare drum! I really like your choice of hardware, too! Yes, the Rogers repro lugs are pricey! I had to order 10 of them for my Montineri "Dynatone"...

Re: I Have Never "Gotten" Gretsch Drums

I, too, have never understood why vintage Gretsch drums sell for so much more than a comparable Ludwig, Rogers or Slingerland kit. I've always felt that the drumming public at large feeds this...

Re: DW Buys Slingerland Name

I've been reading this thread from the start and it's obvious that all of us are extremely passionate about our drums...and vintage drums in particular! Everyone here is entitled to their opinion and...

Re: Calling on Slingerland Experts

A beautiful African mahogany shell! Multijd is correct with his assessment of what you probably have. The badge was used from about 1928-1947. I have a 1930's 9x13 "Junior Boy Scout" marching drum...

Re: Showing off my freshly detailed Powertone

Thanks for the compliments on my kit! Yes, the same sizes as yours, but with the Knobby cymbal mount. And, yes, a real pleasure to play!

As to the adapter plate, it's a custom piece made for me by...

Re: Showing off my freshly detailed Powertone

Hi Kurt!

Yes, the Powertone snare drums used gloss paint on the interior, while Tower and Luxor snare drums had flat grey. Maybe it was thought that a glossy interior, vs flat, gave a bit more...

Re: Showing off my freshly detailed Powertone

Fantastic restoration! I've got the Tower snare drum, which is basically the same and converted it to a Powertone with a Swivo strainer and butt. The Tower has flat grey paint vs the gloss grey in...

Re: Yamamoto Gracy? Anybody know ANYTHING?

Hi Marc!

For clarification, are you saying that "Gracy" branded drums were built by Yamamoto? I have your Stencil Drums book and the only reference to Gracy is a possible relation to Hoshino, but...

Re: Picked up this Penncrest tom for $25

Excellent score! Especially with the Battleship lugs. I believe that "Penncrest" was sold by J.C. Penney's. Please post pictures when the tom is recovered.

Re: Cool little Japanese outfit

I just noticed the cymbal arm bracket, with two wing screws, on the bass drum. This was used exclusively by Hoshino.

Re: Cool little Japanese outfit

Definitely a very cool vintage MIJ kit! I don't believe that the "Made In Japan" logo bass drum head is original to the kit, but rather an aftermarket add-on. All "Made In Japan" badges were used...

Re: Who makes the most authentic vintage wrap?

Thanks Brian!

Bum Wrap Drum Company offers some great wraps! While it is held on only at the seams, the lugs and other hardware keep it attached really well. I've had no issues over the years that...

Re: Slingerland Stage Band

Hey Mark!

Hard to tell from the photo, but are those "Shelbyville" badges? If so, those solid oak re-rings must be really nice!

Re: Slingerland Stage Band

I always wondered about this placement myself! It's just way too far off the bass for comfortable playing! Having it in the middle not only makes more sense, but also makes it easily adaptable for...
