Re: HAROLD "Doc" WEST... 1951 tom mounting

I think I can see what appears to be the butt of a stick or brush *just* peeking out from the back of his hand, which of course suggests he was playing the drums....

Re: HAROLD "Doc" WEST... 1951 tom mounting

Neither the clarinet nor the saxophone is in play; was the band not playing when the picture was taken? Then Doc could easily have been setting up or tearing down his kit, holding the tom in his...

Re: Drum/Sewing Kit

"Thimbles" is one of the funniest things I've seen in awhile. Thanks for the laugh (out loud).

Re: Restoring Slingerland duco paint

I think you made the right decision in this case. Nothing beats original, even if it does need "propping up".

Re: Virtual Drum Battle

Yes my vote goes to Gary for playfulness and creative free-form. Unfortunately I had to mail the ballot, and some jerk is messing with your proud and venerable USPS...

Re: Ludwig Rail Arm Help-Am I doing something wrong?

A picture is worth a thousand words...which is about how many words I typed above :)

Mr. jmcohen introduced a key word - "crease". The crease must be crisp! Pic shows how these pieces are...

Re: Rogers advice needed please! 20" Fullerton*bass drum spur collet catching on plat

For interest's sake - the plate was bent, the carriage bolt was thus "raised" resulting in contact with the collet, BUT there is no damage to the shell from the carriage bolt "pulling through"....

Re: Rogers advice needed please! 20" Fullerton*bass drum spur collet catching on plat

The plate looks flush to the shell at the red arrow, then a gap appears at the green arrow and continues to the end of the plate. That raises the carriage bolt at that end.

Almost 100% certain...

Re: Ludwig Rail Arm Help-Am I doing something wrong?

I think it needs to be more P-shaped whereas it's currently pear-shaped. The flat lengths should be parallel from the side view, beginning crisply at the point where the clamping (rounded) area ends...

Re: Nurture or Nature

Great photo Dan.

If I were to become tiresome on the philosophical question, I might say - people are nurtured by other people in every case, and since all people are products of nature, it's...

Re: Rogers Black Onyx

Very cool kit JR. There's gotta be some kind of clear self-leveling epoxy you could follow those cracks with. Or leave it if you're going to flip it I guess. :)

Now let's get Dave to post that...

Re: Good news, I dont have to sell my drums

Good news for a great guy Jeff.

Not sure why, but I can't help thinking you could spend/splurge a little of that trip savings on a whole nice beef tenderloin. You could cut that up and freeze...

Re: Leedy Project Begins

Nice that the bongos are cylindrical and not conical in shape - much easier to wrap!

Re: Ludwig Standards with Resocoat and date stamps?

Actually that looks to me like it could easily be Granitone.

Well now that is very interesting. I wonder what they'd say if you sent them an Xs20 and asked them to turn it into something like an old K. :)

Re: Ludwig Downbeat

4 extra holes in the kick, presumably for missing rail mount, but yeah I'd buy them, after checking the workmanship on the new tom holder installation - it can be ugly.
