Re: Rogers kit with Dynasonic 1100 in Kalamazoo CL

Exactly! Always check "sold" prices to get current value. Drums in better condition will always go for more. As to Dynasonics, I'm just not seeing them selling for $500 anymore. Around $350-$400 for...

Re: Drum Foundry

Hi Brian!

Drum Foundry used to offer so much more than they do now, but still offer excellent products. I recently purchased a 5-ply Magnum shell, 5x14, as a replacement for my ruined single-ply...

Re: Ludwig Standard snare price check

K.O.

Thanks for letting us know that the finish is Gold Strata and one of the more common finishes. Still, the drum, and wrap, look very clean. Has the same shell, strainer, butt, hoops and...

Re: Latest Score: Kent Snare

Hi DrumBob!

I have a Kent strainer. It's a bit tweaked and missing the snare string clamping bracket. I think that part is still on yours? If you'd like to experiment with my strainer, you can...

Re: Ludwig Standard snare price check

Hi John!

Sellers have been inflating prices on these "poor man's Jazz Festival" for some time now. Doesn't mean they sell! A quick look at SOLD Ludwig Standard snare drums shows they average close...

Re: Suddenly Inherited Rogers Kit From Brother - Restoration!

Hi Kevin!

I had a tension rod that was bent, so just took some pictures to show you how I straighten them. I insert the tension rod into a lug nut, then insert it into my vice. Using my brass...

Re: Suddenly Inherited Rogers Kit From Brother - Restoration!

Well, I just took a look at the front bass drum hoop. Found two places where the outer ply is separating. I never noticed this! DOH Guess I'll be using those custom made hoop brackets again! LoLoLoLo...

Re: Ok What Do You Think of Pearl Hardware?

Yes, definitely built well! And, it does go down fairly low. I always liked Pearl's 800 series hardware.

It really takes time and effort to get neglected hardware looking good again. The moral of...

Re: Suddenly Inherited Rogers Kit From Brother - Restoration!

Update...

All the COS hoops, (13, 14, 16) have been cleaned and polished. It was a laborious process, due to rust on all hoops. First, I had to clean all the hoops with my solution of Dawn and...

Re: Star Drums

I've done this on a few of my Star-built drums. Many of my snare drums have the original metric tension rods, but there are also those drums where I've resorted to using standard 12-24 tension rods....

Re: Ok What Do You Think of Pearl Hardware?

The Pearl S-800W snare stand is finished! Came out clean and shiny, but there are still wear spots and some minor rust. Regardless, it's now an excellent stand to offer up for sale!

Re: Ok What Do You Think of Pearl Hardware?

I've never owned any Yamaha stands, but always thought they looked great! I really like your pictured stand...and the fact that it is single braced and not double-braced. All the stands I'm cleaning...

Re: Sling set 70s ID potential buy for Dean

Hi John!

I completely agree with the 16" FT being a better fit than the 18". The Rogers Big R kit I'm restoring is also 13, 14, 16.

Re: Suddenly Inherited Rogers Kit From Brother - Restoration!

Hi Gary!

I'd like to think, and believe, that you are correct in regards to looks vs sound! This 6.5x14 Ludwig SS sounds great...and is very clean! Thanks again for your comments!

Re: Sling set 70s ID potential buy for Dean

Hi Dean!

I believe the Slingerland kit you are considering is the cataloged "Super Rock Outfit No. 51N", which first appeared in the 1976 catalog. The listed measurements on that piece of paper...

Instead of starting on the second hi hat stand, I'm going to clean up the snare stand that was with the Big R kit...a Pearl S-800W. Here it is all disassembled. I forgot to include the two large wing...

Here's the completed Pearl H-820W hi hat stand. Looks pretty good...and works perfectly. Just a little rust here and there that would not come off, but still clean and shiny overall!

Re: P87 strainer Dean going mad tensioning snares

Hi Dean!

A very well-thought response! I guess I didn't realize that would wanted to flip the drum and make a little profit. Based on that, yes, it would be difficult to pay almost $90 for a set...

Thanks for the positive comments on my restoration job! Yes, the 6.5" SS sounds pretty darn good, too! Too bad about all those swirly scratch marks, but the drums is clean and shiny and...
