Hello all. I just bought this drum on a whim and need to get some info about it before I do something with it. Here are pics before I ask any questions:

Here's what I would like to know:

Does anyone know the age or maker?

How can I tell if it's brass or copper? (My hand smells like pennies after I mess with it)

Should I polish it up or leave it as is?

How should I get a snare mechanism that works? It is currently a 100% virgin shell with everything attached to the rims (No screws, all riveted with no good way to get off)

What would you do to it? I love this thing but am not sure where to go from here. Luckily, a modern head does fit it, so that's a good.

Thanks for looking! I look forward to your replies!!

We just had one of these come through here,..it was a big one, and it got ID`d, Same key nut, throw, hoops, and I think had a BD with it.

Mr. Layton will hopefully chime in.
I believe he would say, Do not polish it up.
Leave all the patina.
"Possibly" wipe down with lemon oil.
Wait until he contacts us about the lemon oil. OK? WAIT.
Looks great right now.

I couldn`t remember it ,..I know that Duplex, Slingerland (i think), and SONOR have those hand keys. Is there a stamped triangle in the shell ? It would be small but on the exterior.

You got any close, from another angle, pic of the throw ? Maybe from the top and side.

Here's the strainer. I wouldn't call this one a "Throw-off" because there isn't a handle, just adjustment. Would be a pain to to turn the snares off on the fly.

I have seen zero markings anywhere.

That`s gonna make it longer to ID but we`ll get it.

I`m trying to see how the throw mechanism works but there`s so much coard in the way. Does it tighten ? It looks like just a lift screw and not an actual throw off with a lever. That`s how they all were back then and it may push this back to teens or single digits.
