I just started to get into Slingerland a bit. Picked up these two, a Gold Satin Flame kit with a Gene Krupa snare, and this really cool cocktail drum. I haven't even cleaned them or anything, these are my winter projects. Rich

My Radio King set bought on this forum and shipped to NZ. And my '64 Modern Jazz in oyster pink. Sold new in NZ. I have since sold the pink kit. A guy came to look at another kit I was selling and talked me into selling the pink kit. Kind of regretting that now.

Don't worry, that BB is safely tucked away in bed. along with it's 6.1/2x14 brother. Yes, I have both. Fayray. Glad you like the Du-All set. It's a mighty rare bird indeed, several snares around but only THAT ONE set. Loved your pink strata set. I'm selling my Lavender Satin Flames, this time next month they'll be gone.... Dave |

I think this is from around 1957. It is a great sounding drum.
I would love to surround this with an appropriate set. |

Terrible photos from rehearsals, but you get the drift. Radio Kings, 13, 16 and 26 in WMP (rewrap). Aluminium badge, nickel streamline lugs, single flange 'Radio King' engraved hoops, no shell-mounted bass drum spurs, Date of 27/09/1947 written inside the bass shell along with the names and address of the first two owners (and date of purchase of 2nd owner).
Had them under some microphones on Sunday for a demo and the engineer lost it, said they were the easiest drums he's got tones out of. We didn't even re-tune for the room, just stuck some mics near them and balanced the levels. |

Attachment 89250. Early 60s serial no 5630 radio king/ ? Artist? - must have been a special order drum. 10 lugs, solid shell, 3 point strainer without extension bridges. Sorry about the picture.

Since mine is in blue agate, the only color they ever showed the New Rock in the catalogs, I call it a "New Rock." However, I acquired a pair of no-name flat-based stands to use with them. At that point, did my kit become a Modern Solo? Also, earlier this year I bought a '62 Student Model Radio King in red sparkle. The sound of the drum was not doing it for me, so out of curiosity I swapped a set of stick saver hoops on it. Oddly enough, I like the sound much better with the COS sticksavers rather than the COB double flanges. What I want to know is, is my drum now a Hollywood Ace? Or is it a SMRK with swapped hoops? If I died tomorrow and nobody knew about the change on the drum, my drum stuff would be sold off including what any expert would call a Hollywood Ace and a stray set of COS double flange hoops with clips. |

This kit is a bunch of orphans wrapped with jaminsams WMP, the only kit I ever used actual drum wrap on. I love this kit, thanks again to Glenn for the 18" floor tom shell and hoops!

Re: This is the Display Your Slingerland Drums Thread
This is my Slingerland 6 lug snare drum collection. Just missing a few colors (Yellow Tiger, White Tiger, and White Fiesta Pearl). I try to collect just Black and Brass Niles Badge six lug snares, but a few others have come into my collection from earlier and later years as well.
