Super Sensitive question

I have a late 70's 12x15 marching 6 ply shell that is factory drilled for super Sensitive. Problem is the plastic threaded piece at the end of cam arm that is inserted in shell to hold crossbar is not long enough....not enough threads to install nut. Metal or 3 ply shell no problems but this 6 ply shell is too thick. Any ideas?

Hello Rynow...and Welcome to the forum!

Yes, pictures will really help. Since you mention "super sensitive" and a "6 ply shell", are you talking about Ludwig? Again, we need more specifics...and pictures!

I just read your first post and it does appear that you are talking about Ludwig!

Yes it's Ludwig. please see pics below. Just not enough threads to screw on nut. But Ludwig made 6 ply SS marching snares.

Just to be clear...this is a Ludwig drum shell? The 6 plies from another era/company could be a lot thicker perhaps. I believe the control handle/link and rod unit assemblies should be the same distance through the shell no matter which era they come from.

Re: Super Sensitive question

To be honest, I have my doubts about that being factory drilling. The scars and footprints from washers or nuts are off center by a mile. That looks like a hole bit scar to me.

What was there for attachments before you got it ? and, What came with your SS hardware for attachment ?

If you put the nut on first, then push it through from inside, What happens ?

You could drill a shallow countersink on the inside of the shell. A Forstner bit slightly bigger than the nut would be ideal.
